Event Description:
Southwestern Adventist University offers weekly opportunities for the entire campus to gather for academic reflection and discussion, civic enlightenment, community fellowship, cultural enrichment, personal growth and well-being, spiritual and social outreach, worship and/or the celebration of campus life and school spirit.  Assemblies are normally held in the Keene Church Sanctuary.  Watch for email announcements about any changes to this location. 

This week our guest speaker is Kim Harris. 
Kim R. Harris is a recording artist, teacher, composer and storyteller, travelling the nation, performing concerts, and lecturing on the music of the underground railroad and the modern civil rights movement. A founding artist in the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Changing Education through the Arts program, Harris is an advocate for arts integration in learning. Steeped in the tradition of African American spirituals and the music of civil and human rights, she is recognized as a gifted leader of song and a passionate cultural advocate. Harris earned a PhD in worship and the arts from Union Theological Seminary. She composed Welcome Table: A Mass of Spirituals, along with composer and colleague, M. Roger Holland, II and wrote the libretto and collaborated with Wm. Glenn Osborne to compose the one-act family opera, Friends of Freedom: An Underground Railroad Story. Harris is a member of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium and the North American Academy of Liturgy. She is liturgical consultant for the Archdiocese of New York Office of Black Ministry as well as a clinician for GIA Publications Inc.
